SPEEDY ELEGANCE ON THE SLOPES

SPEEDY ELEGANCE ON THE SLOPES

January 21st, 2015

Going downhill can be a real pleasure, for example on sled speeding down a steep snowy hill on a sunny winter’s day. Massimiliano Zoggia and Roberta Sassone (a.k.a. Supermaxistudio), in partnership with Garda & Co. in Turin, Italy, designed the sled for Alfa Romeo. The result, receiving a honourable mention in the Red Dot awards 2014, is an amazing sledge, following the ethos and elegance of the supercar Alfa Romeo 4C.

The sledge is made of lightweight 30mm aluminium tubes, TIG-welded into a tensegrity structure. It is coated with triple-layer matte white paint and topped with a comfortable 6mm thick carbon fibre seat. The runners are made of stainless type 316 surgical steel, providing an extremely durable low-friction contact with snow or ice. The aerodynamic design is a clear expression of  the aesthetics of the 4C.

The sledge 102cm long, 43cm wide and 22 cm high, weighing only 3 kg. It is definitely a good companion down the wintry slopes.
